During the period 1930-40, many Syrian Christian members including Marthomites who came to Mumbai from Kerala, started prayer groups/congregational worships and by their relentless efforts a Mar Thoma parish was set up in Mumbai in November 1940, the present Mumbai/Dadar Mar Thoma parish. It was the first and only Mar Thoma Parish covering the whole of Mumbai city and suburbs including Kalyan...

Lectionary Theme: Mar Thoma Church Day Church: The way of Christ Celebration of Love: The Lord is coming

  •

    1. Then Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and summoned the elders, the heads, the judges, and the officers of Israel; and they presented themselves before God.

    2. And Joshua said to all the people, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Long ago your ancestors—Terah and his sons Abraham and Nahor—lived beyond the Euphrates and served other gods.

    3. Then I took your father Abraham from beyond the River and led him through all the land of Canaan and made his offspring many. I gave him Isaac;

    4. and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. I gave Esau the hill country of Seir to possess, but Jacob and his children went down to Egypt.

    5. Then I sent Moses and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt with what I did in its midst; and afterwards I brought you out.

    6. When I brought your ancestors out of Egypt, you came to the sea; and the Egyptians pursued your ancestors with chariots and horsemen to the Red Sea.

    7. When they cried out to the Lord, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and made the sea come upon them and cover them; and your eyes saw what I did to Egypt. Afterwards you lived in the wilderness a long time.

    8. Then I brought you to the land of the Amorites, who lived on the other side of the Jordan; they fought with you, and I handed them over to you, and you took possession of their land, and I destroyed them before you.

    9. Then King Balak son of Zippor of Moab, set out to fight against Israel. He sent and invited Balaam son of Beor to curse you,

    10. but I would not listen to Balaam; therefore he blessed you; so I rescued you out of his hand.

    11. When you went over the Jordan and came to Jericho, the citizens of Jericho fought against you, and also the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I handed them over to you.

    12. I sent the hornet ahead of you, which drove out before you the two kings of the Amorites; it was not by your sword or by your bow.

    13. I gave you a land on which you had not labored, and towns that you had not built, and you live in them; you eat the fruit of vineyards and oliveyards that you did not plant.

    14. “Now therefore revere the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness; put away the gods that your ancestors served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.

  •

    7. Remember your leaders, those who spoke the word of God to you; consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.

    8. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

    9. Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings; for it is well for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by regulations about food, which have not benefited those who observe them.

    10. We have an altar from which those who officiate in the tent have no right to eat.

    11. For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest as a sacrifice for sin are burned outside the camp.

    12. Therefore Jesus also suffered outside the city gate in order to sanctify the people by his own blood.

    13. Let us then go to him outside the camp and bear the abuse he endured.

    14. For here we have no lasting city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.

    15. Through him, then, let us continually offer a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name.

    16. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

  •

    19. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God,

    20. built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone.

    21. In him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord;

    22. in whom you also are built together spiritually into a dwelling place for God.

  •

    1. “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me.

    2. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?

    3. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.

    4. And you know the way to the place where I am going.”

    5. Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”

    6. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

    7. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
